Aubrey Thompson

Chairman

Aubrey is an accomplished entrepreneurial Chairman and CEO; his 25 years’ experience includes working in large multinationals and small company environments.
He is currently Chairman of a number of Scottish based technology companies. He holds an honours degree from Trinity College, Dublin and D.I.T, Dublin in Applied Physics and Applied Chemistry.

Martin Dean

Managing Director

He has over 30 years professional experience of investigating wrecks using both diving and geophysical techniques. Over the last 10 years he has acquired extensive experience of high resolution multibeam sonar systems to survey man-made structures.  He has been involved in research into identifying the highest resolution equipment and  the best techniques for exploiting the potential of these high quality systems for investigating objects on the seabed.  He is a key member of  the ADUS survey team that has investigated over 150 wrecks all around the world using multibeam sonar in depths ranging from 1m to 1500m.  He is also responsible for the forensic analysis of the survey data which can often provide quantifiable evidence for the loss of a vessel and subsequent changes in its condition.

He still retains an academic research interest through his position as a  Senior Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews.

Mark Lawrence

Finance and Technical Director

Marine archaeologist and geophysical surveyor

Owner of the Lochaline Dive Centre, Sound of Mull

Mark is responsible for the acquisition of survey data in the field and deals with many of the technical aspects relating to vertical and horizontal reference datum points.  He is also responsible for the primary editing  and initial visualisation in proprietary software such as QINSy and Fledermaus.   He has surveyed hundreds of wrecks using side scan sonar and high-resolution multibeam sonar and, like his colleagues, continues to be intrigued by shipwrecks and how to improve survey methodology to make them more understandable to specialists and the public alike.

Chris Rowland

Visualisation Director

Digital imager and animator

Senior Lecturer in Digital Imaging, University of Dundee

Chris  is responsible for the ultimate visualisations of ADUS data using techniques developed for TV and film animation which, as a keen sport diver and after a chance view of some early survey data collected by  Mark and Martin, he enthusiastically applied to the output from multibeam sonars.  He was recently awarded a PhD for his research into three-dimensional wreck visualisation.

John Anderson

Software Development Manager

3D visualisation software developer

Researcher in 3D Visualisation, University of Dundee

John deals with the software number crunching side of ADUS and was the brains behind construction of WreckSight.  He can stare at pages of numbers on Exel spreadsheets and turn them into interactive 3D imagery in a way which is totally baffling to most ordinary people.
